Brian Daboll Can Reinvent The Tennessee Titans' Offense

After hiring Robert Saleh, the Titans still had some decisions to make for hiring their Offensive and defensive coordinators. As of Tuesday, the Titans no longer need to find an OC, as Brian Daboll is now the team's offensive coordinator.

For the Titans, this is a great hire. An offensive-minded coach who has done a phenomenal job with developing young players and QB talent during his time as a coach. The last time Daboll was an OC was 2021 with the Bills. The Bills' offense was ranked top-10 in every statistical category and averaged 381.9 yards per game.

Daboll has a lot of hardware to show from his time as a coach, as he has five Super Bowl rings, all with the Patriots as wide receiver and tight ends coach, a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2017 with Alabama as the OC, AP Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020, and AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2022.

Daboll was one of the best options for this job, and it's good to see the Titans took this one seriously. After firing Mike Vrabel and going through the disaster that was Brian Callahan, seeing management actively seeking interviews with experienced and well-thought-out coaches is a big plus.

Daboll was interviewing for the Raiders' head coaching job, but has ultimately committed to the Titans for the foreseeable future. The Titans' OC job has a lot to offer: a young QB who is improving every game, and the most salary cap space of any team in the NFL. This could give Daboll free rein with the offense and allow him to help select any offensive players that the Titans need going forward.

The Raiders' head coaching job comes with a lot of pressure. Although they are also top three in cap space and hold the number one pick, they also have one of the biggest fanbases in the league, and about 20+ years of misery since their last Super Bowl appearance.

There is little room for error when it comes to coaching the Raiders, and Daboll won’t have the same kind of leeway that he had when coaching the Giants. However, with the Titans' job and their rebuild already taking place, Daboll will have the opportunity to create the offense of his choosing around Cam Ward and turn the Titans offense into a top-10 offense once again.

The first few years of this rebuild have been rough for Titans fans as they have had back-to-back three-win seasons for just the second time in the franchise’s 66-year history. The Titans have brought in completely new talent and management in order to fix what has been a dumpster fire so far. With free agency a little over a month away, expect Daboll and the Titans to make some serious moves to turn this team back into a contender.
