The Tennessee Titans Have A New Coach And Fans Should Be Relieved

Former Jets head coach and 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has signed a five-year deal to become the next head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Salah brings over 20 years of coaching experience, with more than 15 years as a defensive coach. Many people thought Matt Nagy would be the coach, but management liked what they saw and took a shot with Saleh.

How will Salah fix the Titans?

It starts on the defensive end; the Titans had one of the worst defenses in the NFL last season. Between injuries and trades, the Titans' defense struggled immensely. Saleh has been known to turn around defenses and is regarded by some as a great mentor and coach.

49ers linebacker Fred Warner talked about Saleh being a mentor and how he developed his career.

“Robert Saleh is one of the best coaches I've ever played for, Warner said. “He’s an amazing teacher and the reason I got drafted to the 49ers, he saw my film and what I got due when others didn’t.”

49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir also praised Saleh about his time in San Francisco and how he helped improve the team.

“Just having a guy like Saleh, he was so energetic coming off when we first met him, just playing for him, it was a blessing, just to learn how he’s a defensive mastermind.”

It’s obvious that Saleh is a player's coach and puts his guys first, but his next hire will be his most important decision to develop young quarterback Cam Ward.

Who will be the Titans' next offensive coordinator?

Saleh is a defensive-minded coach, but he needs a solid offensive coordinator to help keep the offense rolling for the 26-27 season. With Mike McDaniel now off the board, it will be interesting to see who the Titans go after as their OC.

Names like Nagy and Brian Daboll have popped up in the search for the new Titans OC position, as well as Mike McCarthy. Would Titans fans want any of these guys as their head coach? No. However, as an offensive coach, these coaches would be solid picks.

Nagy has been a solid OC for the Chiefs for the last few seasons, including a Super Bowl run. Daboll and McCarthy both bring a lot of solid coaching experience and know what it takes to get a team to a Super Bowl and win one.

Some coaches are meant to be the coordinators more than head coaches, and I think any one of these guys would be a fundamental part of the Titans' rebuild going forward. The Titans hired the right guy as head coach; now their next step is to find the right OC to make this Titans rebuild a good one.
