One thing the Colts fans have on the rest of the league is the best mascot. For the second year in a row, Blue has been named the NFL Mascot of the Year.
This award is voted on by all mascots in the league during the NFL Mascot Summit, a yearly meeting where mascots meet to swap ideas, and awards are given out to recognize success in the league. There are multiple awards to be earned, including the Anchor in the Community honor, which was taken home by the Rams.
This year, the summit was hosted in Indianapolis, and there were 18 mascots in attendance. There are a total of 28 mascots in the league, and the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants and New York Jets are the only teams in the league that do not have official mascots. There is no particular reason; they just chose not to officially name one.
Blue was named the Colts' official mascot in September of 2006, when he went skydiving for his debut performance. The Colts went on to win Super Bowl XLI that year, 29-17 against the Bears. From then on, Blue continued to amaze crowds and became one of the premier mascots in the league.
With his latest recognition, Blue now has five total NFL Mascot of the Year titles since the award was created in 2016. It recognizes the work the mascots do around the community and the important roles they play in their respective programs. Blue was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2020 and has continued to cement his legacy as one of the best.
A good mascot can be a pillar in the community and gives an easier way for teams to show up throughout the year. Having a mascot going to events and representing the organization allows fans to further connect with the team. Having a mascot as good as Blue electrifies the crowd during games and gives people a reason to show up, even if the game may not meet expectations.
Blue is a constant presence on social media and can be found on Instagram, TikTok, X and Facebook. While the off-season may seem long, fans can still look to Blue for entertainment.
