Titans fans have waited in anticipation for the NFL Draft, as it will essentially solidify their roster heading into next season. The Titans have the 4th overall pick, which puts them in a great spot, as the big-name players will be off the board early.
It gives the Titans more than enough time to decide whether to go on defense or offense with this pick. If they decide to go offense, it will most likely be Jeremiyah Love or Carnell Tate, both ranked as the top running back and arguably the top wide receiver in the draft.
Love produced nearly 1,400 and 20 touchdowns last year, nearly leading Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff at just 20 years old. Tate had just under 900 yards and nine touchdowns to lead Ohio State as their dynamic playmaker.
If it’s not an offensive weapon that the Titans take, it could be an offensive anchor to ensure solid depth at the offensive line position. Francis Mauigoa is the odds-on favorite to be the first lineman drafted, and some analysts even have him going in the top three.
The University of Miami has both Mauigoa and Rueben Bain Jr., most likely getting drafted in the top 10. The Titans have their work cut out for them if they draft on defense, as the first round is loaded with defensive talent.
If Bain Jr isn't available at the four spot, there is a trio of Ohio State players that Tennessee could get, and they would all be immediate starters on the defensive end. If they decide to go the linebacker route, Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles would both be legit options.
Reese, 6' 4", 243 lbs, is a linebacker who recorded 34 tackles and 6.5 sacks this past season. Reese proved to be a pivotal part of Ohio State’s run defense, as he is an elite presence when attacking the ball and finding the seams in any offensive line.
Reese ran a 4.46 40-yard dash and draws draft comparisons with the likes of Micah Parsons and Lavar Arrington. Styles is listed at 6'5", 244 lbs, and had 46 tackles last season, to go along with a forced fumble and interception.
Styles also ran a 4.46 40-yard dash, and his 10 Relative Athletic Score is one of the highest ever recorded since the metric started in 1987. The sky is the limit for Styles; he draws comparisons to Fred Warner and Anthony Barr for his elite pass defense and ability to stop the run.
Caleb Downs is also an elite corner projected in the top-10, who has drawn an NFL Comparison to Ed Reed and Derwin James. Downs will be a great talent in this league. The Titans may not be the most likely suitors, considering the offseason they had at the corner position.
However, there is nothing wrong with depth and development moving forward. The Titans have plenty of options coming up for draft night, but who they choose will be a mystery. Titans fans have a lot to look forward to, as no matter what, this pick will ultimately improve their team.
