The Milwaukee Brewers' Jackson Chourio Picks Up Right Where He Left Off

No team in baseball seems to be having as much fun as the Milwaukee Brewers. The team faced a bit of a rough patch after setting a franchise record with 14 consecutive wins. Then, after dropping their first in two weeks in 10 innings to the Cincinnati Reds, they lost 8 of 13 games.

Now, after a seven-game road stand against the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks, the Brewers are 2-0 against the top team in the American League. A 7-2 win kicked things off with a bang as Jackson Chourio returned and was a key part of the team’s 4-1 win on Saturday, August 30.

With one game left against the Blue Jays, the Brewers will return home for a unique Labor Day series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Most importantly, Tuesday, September 2, is their first day off since Thursday, August 14.

News broke ahead of the second Blue Jays game that the Brewers' 21-year-old sensation would be returning. The team’s center fielder returned and made an immediate impact by breaking a 1-1 tie in the ninth inning. Not only did Chourio go deep, but his energy was contagious ... as Christian Yelich hit his own dinger immediately after.

Other than the home run, Chourio hit a deep fly ball on the first pitch he saw. While that resulted in a flyout, he singled later on in the fourth inning. With two hits in his return, Chourio showed no signs of slowing down after a tough rehab assignment.

.053 was Chourio’s batting average during his five-game tenure in Nashville. The Brewers' Triple-A affiliate hosted their $82M superstar, who picked up just one hit in 19 at-bats. That said, his one hit was a double. Chourio also drew a pair of walks with the Sounds which is impressive knowing his walk rate; his 4.6 BB% is in the bottom 6% of the league.

Things have been on the rise for Chourio as he picked up three walks in a two-game span from July 27-28. The next day, he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for a month. All signs point towards the righty being back to 100% as he was a full-go in the August 30 win.

Moving forward, the Brewers have their second-place HR leader back. Chourio, 18, still trails Yelich, 27, by a wide margain. Even though he missed all that time, the likes of William Contreras and Brice Turang weren’t able to pass him. Their chances of catching up to him look pretty dim if he's going to have more games like he did in his return.
