The Red Sox Need to Get Consistent

The Boston Red Sox are the streakiest team in the league. One day, they will score ten runs, and then the next, they barely make it on base. It is the most confusing season of recent years, and that includes the 2020 COVID-shortened season.

My Hottest Take: The Team Has Power, But They Have No Discipline

The Red Sox as a team have struck out 604 times this season. They have only walked 209 times. That is a pretty bad walk ratio, especially against some of the pitchers in the league. The Red Sox are currently 145-for-601 with runners in scoring position. Let that sink in. That is 456 possible runs that could have helped the team win half of the games that they have lost.

The team has left 499 runners on base, and nine times out of ten, it's due to a strikeout. They are also one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to using the ABS, which is supposed to help them, but they just use it willy-nilly, not strategically. This team, on paper, has the power to hit home runs even without a right-handed hitter to help produce that power, but they are just not getting the offense they need to prove that.

You Should Know: Shaking Up the Lineup Once Again May Help the Struggling Offense

It might be time to once again shake up the lineup. While the lineup has been shaken up all year due to injuries and people slumping and not being able to stay where they were placed, the Red Sox have seen probably close to 30 different lineups this season.

While Carlos Narvaez and Connor Wong do have power as well, Mickey Gasper has come to the big leagues and proved that he is a stronger offensive catcher, as well as a good defensive catcher. The only reason that he may currently not be the main catcher is that he is still getting used to all of the pitchers. Yoshida does not have the power that this team needs in a leadoff hitter; even if Gasper is not the leadoff hitter, put Jarren Duran back up there and let someone drive him in instead of him focusing on driving people in.

Before You Go: Not All of the Offense is Bad

Some of the offense has been consistent all season, or if they were in a slump, they figured out or fixed what was going wrong. Willson Contreras is one of those examples; he currently leads the team in home runs and is second when it comes to hits. He has been producing all season and is one of the players that the team has acquired who has been as advertised.

The offense will start figuring itself out; this team has power and can hit the baseball. The team just needs to do it more consistently, and the season could turn around.
