The Dallas Cowboys were relatively active in Week 1 of free agency more so than in recent years. They made key additions, including trading with the Green Bay Packers for Rashan Gary, and signing safety Jalen Thompson (Cardinals), quarterback Sam Howell (Eagles), and cornerback Cobie Durant (Rams), among others.
However, there are still clear needs on the defensive side of the ball, including adding two linebackers, another edge rusher, and more cornerback depth. This upcoming draft presents a valuable opportunity to address those gaps, and the Cowboys could continue to build out the roster through additional trades and free agency moves before the NFL Draft.

“DB Chess Piece”br/>Size:6’0” | 207 lbs
Thieneman is one of the most versatile defensive backs in this class. He can line up at deep safety, drop into the box, or cover tight ends and slot receivers. With his instincts and physicality, he fits perfectly into a multiple-look defense.
Fit in Christian Parker’s Defense:br/>In Christian Parker’s scheme, Thieneman would be deployed all over the field as a movable piece disguising coverages pre-snap and giving Dallas flexibility in both zone and man looks. He adds range on the back end while also being a reliable run defender.
Round 1, Pick 20th — LB Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
“Future Green Dot Gangsta”br/>Size:6’1” | 230 lbs
A former quarterback at Virginia Tech before transitioning to linebacker, Rodriguez brings high-level football IQ and leadership to the position. He’s instinctive, flies downhill, and shows natural communication skills traits you want in a defensive signal-caller.
Fit in Christian Parker’s Defense:br/>Rodriguez projects as a future “green dot” linebacker calling plays and aligning the defense. His background as a QB helps him diagnose offenses quickly, making him ideal for a scheme that relies on pre-snap adjustments and disciplined zone coverage.
Round 3, Pick 92nd (via 49ers) — CB Malik Muhammad (Texas)
“Press Coverage Enforcer”br/>Size:6’0” | 190 lbs
Muhammad is a physical corner who thrives in press-man coverage. He’s aggressive at the line, disrupts timing, and competes at a high level against top receivers.
Fit in Christian Parker’s Defense:br/>He gives Dallas much-needed depth at corner while fitting the mold of a physical, press-capable defender. Parker can trust him to challenge receivers early in routes, allowing more flexibility with blitz packages and safety rotations.
