Michael Pittman Jr, WR

Former team: Colts

Acquisition: Trade

Contract: 3 yr, 59M extension added to final year of current deal

Pittsburgh begins the task of revamping its WR room with the addition of Michael Pittman Jr., who became a casualty of the financial restructuring the Colts needed to pay Alec Pierce. The former USC standout was productive in Indianapolis, remaining a steady target despite constant rotation at quarterback. His ability to make tough catches through contact makes him a quarterback-friendly target who creates easy chemistry within the offense. Pittman gives the Steelers another 6 '4 outside threat to pair with DK Metcalf, who will benefit from his ability to produce in short-yardage situations as Pierce did last season. While I’d still like to see Pittsburgh invest a high draft pick in a third receiver, this is a great first step towards a high-powered offense for Mike McCarthy’s debut season.

Jamel Dean, CB

Former team: Buccaneers

Acquisition: FA Signing

Contract: 3 yr, 37.5M

One of the premier defensive backs on the market this offseason, Dean appears to be the new starting corner opposite of Joey Porter Jr as the Steelers continue to invest in their secondary. Dean shines as a close-quarters bully, using his long frame to attack receivers at the line of scrimmage. His field vision and anticipation often put him in a position to jump in front of passes and make high-impact plays. Dean’s arrival also frees up Jalen Ramsey to line up at nickel as he did last season. With James Pierre off to Minnesota, Dean is a high-value addition at a position of need. This Pittsburgh secondary could be one of the best in the league, especially if Asante Samuel Jr, who will return for another year with the Steelers, continues to progress in his recovery.

Rico Dowdle, RB

Former team: Panthers

Acquisition: Fa Signing

Contract: 2 yr, 12.25M

Kenneth Gainwell will be sorely missed after his lone electric season in Pittsburgh as he leaves for warmer weather in Tampa Bay. In his absence, the dynamic Rico Dowdle looks to be the new pairing with Jaylen Warren. Dowdle turned heads last season with consecutive 200 AP-yard games with Carolina, showing superstar upside when given a high volume of touches. An elusive rusher with great field vision, Dowdle brings high effort whether he’s carrying the ball, running routes, or blocking downfield. He won’t be asked to shoulder a massive workload on his own, sharing a backfield with Warren and 2nd-year Kaleb Johnson, but he’ll be an intriguing addition to a team that traditionally prides itself on establishing the run.
