Trae Young's Social Media Pattern Should Alarm Atlanta Hawks Fans

Trae Young’s camp remains “disappointed” that the Hawks haven’t extended him an offer on a new deal, per NBA insider Marc J. Spears, and at this juncture, it appears likely that Atlanta’s front office will let this season play out and let Young potentially hit free agency next summer.

That by itself is interesting, but also Young was among the many sports figures to weigh in on the Dallas Cowboys’ recent trade of Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, writing, “&&& the boy got his $!!” in the X comment section, referring to the contract extension that Parsons signed with Green Bay.

This post echoes an earlier tweet from Young after Parsons initially requested a trade out of Dallas, when the star wrote, “This why you pay the man early, when someone will take less early to stay in a place he wanted to be forever, you do it… the price only goes up now! Get what you deserve bro!”

Now the question that Hawks fans must be asking is, was Young sending a veiled message to the Atlanta front office with these posts? Newly-minted Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh has been busy putting together the most talented supporting cast of Young’s career this summer, adding Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Luke Kennard. (Not to mention fleecing the Pelicans on draft day.) However, a disgruntled Trae Young could throw a wrench in his plans.

Still, it’s worth considering that even if no extension is offered, Young will have plenty of incentive to play the best basketball of his career this year in the hopes of securing a huge contract in the summer of 2027.

The Hawks are slated to tip off their 2025 season on October 22 at home against the Toronto Raptors.
