Trade Idea 1: Coby White to LA
While the Clippers are playing great offense, being able to get another reliable scorer to help alleviate the load for James Harden and Kawhi Leonard would be great. With White’s contract expiring, the Bulls are going to have to pay him a large contract or just let him walk. By trading him to the Clippers, they no longer have to make this decision.
The trade would be the Bulls sending Coby White and Isaac Okoro for Bogdan Bogdanovic, Brook Lopez, and Kobe Brown. The Bulls would be able to get off Okoro’s unfavorable contract and pick up to winning players in Bogdanovic and Lopez who are on contract for a couple years and get a young player who they can re-sign for cheap in Brown.
The Clippers would be getting a great piece to complete their lineup. Ever since Bradley Beal got injured, the Clippers haven’t been able to find a true three level scorer besides Harden and Kawhi. While players like Kobe Sanders and Bogdan Bogdanovic, their inconsistencies have kept them from being able to take that job. Coby White would be perfect for that and he could easily slide in right next to Harden, Kawhi, Zubac, and either DJJ or Kris Dunn. With this addition the Clippers could easily become one of the most dangerous teams out West
On a scale from 1-10 on how realistic this trade is I give it a 6.5. While normally a team giving up a promising young player for a couple of veterans would be unrealistic, but the Chicago Bulls are a different story. They are one of the worst front offices in the league and the idea of not having to pay White combined with the fact that they could get some solid players around Matas Buzelis might be enough for them to bite on this trade.
Trade Idea 2: John Collins for Bennedict Mathurin
While a similar idea to trading White, this time the Clippers would be getting a player that could be part of their core for a while. With the Pacers being at the bottom of the East, they are looking ahead to next year when Tyrese Haliburton comes back. This means getting players that fit into their system with him and getting rid of those who don’t. One of the biggest sore spots on that 2024-2025 Pacers team was Mathurin. While he has a valuable style of play, it doesn’t work in the Pacers' pass first offense.
This trade would be John Collins and Jordan Miller for Bennedict Mathurin, Jarace Walker and Isiah Jackson. The Pacers would be getting a 3-and-D player in John Collins, who after a rough start to the season, has quietly been one of the best role players in the league. They would also get Jordan Miller, who has been showing great flashes and is only on a two way contract right now.
The Clippers would be getting a young explosive scorer who has great flashes of defensive potential. Mathurin has been averaging 18 points, six rebounds, and two assists on good efficiency this season. They would also be getting Jarace Walker, another young explosive player who would play great next to Harden and Kawhi. Getting these players would mean that the Clippers become extremely well rounded at all positions.
I rate this trade a 7.8 out of 10 for realism. Mathirun and the Pacers have made it obvious that their relationship has gone downhill. With the Pacers looking ahead and needing players that fit into a system, they will want to get rid of those who don’t. Both teams would be getting the types of players that they would want. This trade hinges on the Pacers' opinion on Collins. If they think his recent stretch of games is the true him then they would be sure to make this trade but if they think how he was playing at the start of the season was more accurate then they might be a bit hesitant to make this trade.
Trade Idea 3: Unloading Everything for Darius Garland
Darius Garland who was previously thought of one the best up-and-coming young players, has been plagued with injury and is hurting his team. The Cavaliers are now sitting fifth in the eastern conference and with injuries to players like Evan Mobley and Max Strus they might start sliding in the standings. He has only been averaging 18 points on league-average efficiency compared to years where he was averaging 22 points on great efficiency. The Cavs might want to get off his expensive contract to fully build around Donavan Mitchell and Evan Mobley.
The full trade would be Darius Garland for Collins, Derrick Jones Jr., Kobe Brown, a first-round pick and a couple swaps. The Clippers would be getting great defensive talent to put around Mitchell. They could have the starting lineup of Mitchell at the one, DJJ at the two, Collins at the three, Mobley at the four, and Jarett Allen at the five. Usually when a team goes for a big lineup like this, they would have to sacrifice shooting. However this lineup would have an average height of six feet and seven point four inches and the average three point shooting efficiency of 37.85%. Being able to have this massive lineup and be able to shoot slightly above league average from three is elite.
The Clippers would be getting their dream in a young star like Garland. For a team like the Clippers who are so used to injuries with their star players, Garland’s toe problems are nothing. They would be getting a player that they could build around once Kawhi and Harden retire. He can also help the Clippers now, as they are making a push past the play-in. Getting Garland would mean that they would run a small lineup with Harden, Garland, Dunn, Leonard, and Zubac but it's nothing they couldn’t handle. Being able to get a player like Garland would be a blessing for the LA Clippers
For realism I would rate this trade a 4 out of 10. The Cavaliers are still in the playoffs and Garland hasn’t been playing poorly enough for them to switch up on him. The Clippers would take this trade in a heartbeat but the Cavs most likely would not be interested. Despite them getting plenty of great role players, they might not be confident in Mitchell playing point guard full time. They also might not believe Collins will be able to play the small forward and the picks that the Clippers would be giving up are not valuable enough to make up for it.
