The Tennessee Titans’ Offense Continues To Make Strides

My Hottest Take: The Titans' offense is finally starting to make some noise

It was evident that the Titans were going to struggle on the offensive end this year, with a difficult schedule, a rookie QB, and a horrendous offensive line. I don’t think anyone expected them to be this bad. They have been held under 14 points in half their games this season and have been shut out on multiple occasions.

However, these last few weeks, something has clicked in the offense, as they have put up 31 and 24 points against two top defenses in the league in the Browns and 49ers. Cam Ward has thrown for 300 yards and four touchdowns in those games, and not to mention that Tony Pollard has had 275+ yards with three touchdowns as well.

As stated in a previous article, this offense excels when Pollard controls the run game, and it is no coincidence that in back-to-back 100-yard games, the Titans have put up two of their best weeks, points-wise, all season long.

If the Titans get the right coaching staff and some quality draft picks to pair with pending free agents, this offense could be above-average, if not better, moving forward.

What You Need to Know: Gunnar Helm broke the record for the most receptions by a rookie tight end in franchise history

Gunnar Helm recorded his 41st reception on Sunday and became the leader for the most receptions by a rookie tight end in franchise history. He passed Bo Scaife, who set the mark back in 2005.

Helm on the season now has 41 receptions, 347 yards, and two touchdowns. Helm hasn’t lit it up yards-wise, but he has been a reliable pair of hands for Ward. Helm and Chig Okonkwo have made a great duo this year as the two tight ends have combined for over 800 yards.

With the uncertainty of Okonkwo’s contract expiring this offseason, Helm could be the TE1 going into next season. If that is the case, then Titans have struck gold with another rookie, as they drafted both Helm and Chimere Dike in the fourth round.

Helm is an above-average run blocker who can also make plays down the field. The Titans will have Helm for the foreseeable future, and if they can turn him into a dominant pass catcher, he can be a top tight end in the league for years to come.

Before You Go: The Titans have a good chance for their third win of the year against the Chiefs

The Titans are looking for their third win of the year against the Chiefs this Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The Titans have an excellent opportunity to win this game, considering the Chiefs will be without Patrick Mahomes, who tore his ACL this past Sunday.

Gardner Minshew will likely be getting the start for the Chiefs and is familiar with the Titans, as he played them many times while in Jacksonville. With the Chiefs now out of playoff contention and the possibility of a full year without Patrick Mahomes, I can easily see the Chiefs tanking for a better draft pick the rest of the year.

With the Titans' offense scoring 20 points in back-to-back weeks for the first time all year, I expect them to stay hot offensively and play spoiler to a beat-up Chiefs team this Sunday. If the defense holds up, this could be another confidence builder for the Titans to end the year.
