The Tennessee Titans’ Head Coaching Search Is Heating Up

The Titans' head coaching search is heating up as more coaches are coming into the fray. Last week, the Titans had six coaches prepared for interviews. That number has now jumped to almost 20.

It's tough to say who the frontrunner is now, as people such as John Harbaugh, Mike McDaniel, and Robert Saleh are now all in the mix. If the Titans hired either one of these coaches, including Kevin Stefanski, Titans fans should be more than pleased. Listed 1-4 is how these coaches stack up against each other, and who would be the best fit for the Titans going forward.

1. John Harbaugh

With Harbaugh’s experience as a head coach, if the Titans get the chance to hire him, they should in a heartbeat. In his 18 years as Ravens head coach, Harbaugh had 15 winning seasons, 12 playoff appearances, six AFC North championships, and a Super Bowl victory in 2013.

If there is anyone who can go and develop players on this Titans team, it's him, especially with Cam Ward at QB. Harbaugh turned Joe Flacco into a franchise QB and led him to a successful career, as he is still playing 12 years after winning a Super Bowl and having an incredible career.

Additionally, he has coached Lamar Jackson and helped turn him into a potential Hall-of-Famer. Although Ravens fans haven’t been satisfied with his decision-making the last few years, Titans fans would chomp at the bit for him to turn this franchise around and get them back to the playoffs.

2. Kevin Stefanski

Stefanski has an excellent coaching career thus far, as in his six seasons with the Browns, he has made multiple playoff appearances and been named Coach of the Year twice in that span. Stefanski turned a bad franchise into a contender once again and gave the fans hope.

Stefanski can easily do the same with a job in Tennessee. Stefanski went through the rebuild process already with the Browns and knows how to kickstart a rebuild through the draft and free agency. Sadly, the signing of Deshaun Watson for the Browns is holding the team back.

Stefanski has found ways to win more with less talent on the field, something Mike Vrabel made a mantra of in Tennessee. Stefanski went to the playoffs in 2023 after using five QBs; Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, P.J. Walker, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Jeff Driskell all played their part in the Browns' playoff run.

With the large salary cap that the Titans have looming and the 2026 NFL Draft, Stefanski and GM Mike Borgonzi could change the course of this team quicker than people expect.

3. Robert Saleh

Saleh is a wild card for the Titans, as his first tenure as head coach of the Jets did not go as planned, as he was out after just two seasons with an 11-23 record. Taking over the Jets was a tall task, and they thought Saleh was the guy for the job.

Immediately after he was fired, the Packers picked him up as an offensive consultant. Making it well known that he was not the main problem in New York. The key attribute I see with Saleh is his ability to build and coach a top-10 defense. He did in San Francisco now on multiple occasions, and even with a banged-up roster this year has found success.

The Titans lost players from trades and injuries, but also had one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Saleh would most certainly fix that problem, and then would need to adjust to his offensive strengths by bringing in a solid coordinator. Saleh isn’t perfect, but the Titans would definitely improve under him.

4. Mike McDaniel

McDaniel is a solid coach and brought the Dolphins to the playoffs on multiple occasions. He is only last on this list because he has some stiff competition ahead of him. McDaniels will definitely find himself as a coach again in the future, and possibly with the Titans.

The issue for him in Miami seemed to be his roster, although he had solid offensive weapons, with an average defense and offensive line, his QB play was spotty. Tua Tagovailoa has been one of the most inconsistent QBs since he entered the league. Now guaranteed he has seen a lot of injuries in his young career, but it doesn’t excuse his constant mistakes and lack of improvement.

If the Titans can’t snag McDaniels as a head coach, they should certainly entertain him as an offensive coordinator. He has worked on the offensive side of the ball his whole career and is one of the smartest coaches in the league. Letting him work with the young talent the Titans have would be a bonus and could make the Titans' offense a juggernaut going forward.
