In my overview of the Seattle Seahawks' offseason article, I made it a point that, while it felt like a certainty that Kenneth Walker would re-sign with the franchise, if a different team offered him more money than he could pass up, I’d circle back with some players that I think could be worthy replacements. According to a recent articleby ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, a scenario where Walker has played his last down in Seattle looks to be a realistic one, so let’s go through options both in free agency and in the draft.

Target 1: Brian Robinson

If the Seahawks aren’t willing to give Walker a top-of-market deal, they likely won’t be interested in the other top free agent, Travis Ettienne Jr. Brian Robinson was with new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury in San Francisco last season, and his contract won’t be terribly expensive, with a Spotrac projection of just over $3 million.

Robinson played a valuable role for the Niners as a change of pace to Christian McCaffrey, with 95 carries for 404 yards and two touchdowns. He’s shown he can handle a larger workload as well, with 606 combined carries over his first three seasons in Washington. Robinson isn’t flashy, but he can sustain a starting workload until Zach Charbonnet is fully recovered from his injury.

Target 2: Mike Washington

A name many fans are likely hearing for the first time after his outstanding week at the NFL combine. Mike Washington, out of Arkansas, is a name Seahawks fans should get familiar with. Washington is a big, bruising runner standing six-foot-two and 223 punds, but he also has incredible speed for his size that he put on display in the form of a 4.33 forty-yard dash.

He posted a relative athletic score of 10.00,which is perfect and ties him for the best athlete at the RB position of all time. Washington is a bit of a journeyman as a fifth-year senior, making stops at the University of Buffalo and New Mexico State University before landing at Arkansas, where his production took off in his lone year with the Razorbacks, rushing for 1,066 yards and eight touchdowns on 6.4 yards per attempt. He’s a bit of a one-year wonder. But if the Seahawks are looking for someone to produce the same type of explosive plays as Walker, Washington would make sense on day two of the draft.

Target 3: Kenneth Gainwell

Gainwell would bring the Seattle backfield a legitimate receiving threat. Kenneth Walker hauled in 40 passes last year, and Zach Charbonnet chipped in 20. Gainwell recorded 77 catches just this season, leading the Pittsburgh Steelers in that department. Think of Gainwell as a fully realized version of what Seattle had in mind for Kenny McIntosh. While his work in the passing game is his best trait, Gainwell can function in a change-of-pace role on the ground. He’s recorded at least 10 runs of 10 or more yards in every season since his rookie year, despite only topping 100 carries once. Spotrac has his projected value at less than $2 million per season, making him a good value target.
